News - Hot off the Press!

***BREAKING NEWS***  We are opening a "sister clinic" in Geneva!  Dr. Barbara Kauffman will be providing veterinary services to the Geneva community and surrounding areas at The Seneca Lake Vet.  For more information, please mosey on over to the new website at  www.SenecaLakeVet.com, and don't forget to join the fun on Facebook!

Hard to believe winter is just trudging right by without a significant snow yet!  Are we going to pay for this later in the Spring, or do you think we're in for early warmth?  On the bright side - we often see torn ACL's with deep snow...but on the down side, with an abundance of warmth, we see a lot more summer BUGS like fleas, ticks and mosquitoes which can cause some significant problems with our pets.

The new clinic is coming right along - we are down to the finishing details.  There is a good bit of excitement in the air at the clinic!  If you haven't gone by - the new sign is up, so if you've been unsure of where exactly we'll be, that should help!

Also - February is National Dental Health Month for our pets!  Dental disease can become a very serious issue and complicate other health problems your pet might have.  Having their teeth, gums and mouth checked every year during their physical exam, and following your veterinarian's suggestions for cleaning the teeth and preventing the problems before they get started are key elements to helping your pet live a long, healthy life.  It is unfortunately all too often that our veterinarians do not see the pet until there's an obvious problem to the owner - like bad breath.  At this point, there is already usually a significant problem present.  It is much better for the pet and the owner's wallet to prevent these problems from happening with routine dental care.  For more information - feel free to view our ePetHealth video of the month, log in to your ePetHealth account and view their articles on Dental Health or call us to schedule a dental exam with your favorite veterinarian!

Brrrr!  Baby it's COLD outside!  Please be sure your furry friends have somewhere sheltered, dry and out of the wind to stay during these cold months.  They also need fresh, unfrozen water - even when there's snow on the ground. Having to get their water intake from snow requires them to eat a significant amount of the ice to amount to anything, and that ice brings down their body temperature making them even more susceptible to the cold temperature around them.  Very young and very old pets need a little extra TLC this time of year also because their bodies have a harder time maintaining their warmth.  By the same token, be very careful of open flame such as a fireplace or extremely hot surfaces such as coal or woodburning stoves.  A cold pet might get a bit too close and burns are no fun!

The holidays might have slowed the progression of the new clinic but we are gearing back up here in the New Year to make stuff come together.  The floor and drop ceilings are being put in... We can see the light at the end of the tunnel!

And be sure to check out our ePetHealth page!  It's a work in progress - but eventually you will be able to access your pet's health notes and records online, be reminded of upcoming vaccine and health needs, order prescription refills online and even request appointments online.

This site is a work in progress!  Please be patient with us as we get our clinic and all of it's bits and pieces pulled together.  If you come across links or pages that just aren't working, or if you have some suggestions for this site, please feel free to contact Janelle with them!  Please also note that these pages are also copyright protected.  If you wish to use the images or text from these pages, please have the courtesy to ask permission and give proper credit.  Thank you!
