Dr. Travis Yates
Dr. Yates graduated from the University of Georgia's College of Veterinary Medicine and spent his first couple of years as a veterinarian in a very rural area of north Georgia. There, his patients consisted of dogs, cats, hamsters, snakes, emus, cattle, pigs, horses, rabbits...you probably get the picture! From there, he joined the United States Army where he not only practiced veterinary medicine on the military pets, mascots, horses and working dogs, but also did a vast amount of food inspection for our troops and inspection of incoming vehicles onto military bases for potential sources of biocontamination. While in the military, Dr. Yates spent time stationed in Texas, Oklahoma and North Carolina as well as assisting in the U.S. evacuation of Panama and the occupation of Bosnia-Herzegovina. He earned his Emergency Field Medic Badge his first year in the service. After his work with the military, Dr. Yates came to the Finger Lakes region of New York to work for Dr. Jack Wright of Phelps Veterinary Hospital where he stayed and worked full time for 7 years, until Dr. Wright's death in 2009. Upon leaving Phelps Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Yates started The Country Vet at the kitchen table of his home, expanded out into his garage and then into the "Old Alexander's store" . The practice has greatly outgrown the small space there and Dr. Yates is currently spending every spare moment remodeling the old Jacob Martin homestead - which many may recognize under the names of Midway, Snortin' Norton's, or others - in hopes of having the clinic moved as soon as possible.
Dr. Yates is experienced in many types of surgery, emergency medicine and ultrasonography as well as preventative medicine and care. He is well-known for his calm, easy-going demeanor and honesty with his clients.
When Dr. Yates is not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Janelle, and keeping up with their four children. He is a member of the Fingerlakes Veterinary Medical Association, as well as the New York State Veterinary Medical Society, the AVMA and continues to be a part of the United States Army on occasion. If that's not enough, between his duties as a Red Jacket Rotarian and a leader for the local Boy Scout troop, Dr. Yates can often be found on various adventures around the Canandaigua area, including the yearly Pageant of Steam in Hopewell!
Dr. Michael Casale
Dr. Casale comes to the Country Vet from Canandaigua Veterinary Hospital where he worked for 9 years. Upon leaving Canandaigua Veterinary, Dr. Casale wanted to be able to practice veterinary medicine in his community without the high sales pressure of so many of today's "corporate" practices. His philosophy meshed well with the goals of The Country Vet. Dr. Casale attended Manhattan College and the Royal University of Bologna, Italy. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology previous to his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Casale's favorite area of veterinary medicine is dentistry.
Dr. Casale is married to Katherine, a marketing specialist, and they have three grown children, Michael, Ronni and Jenni, and a growing house-full of grandchildren. In his spare time, Dr. Casale enjoys gardening, woodworking and studying history.
Dr. Kelly Bolton
Dr. Bolton originally joined our team as an intern during her final semester of veterinary school. Fortunately for us, she fit right in and we were thrilled when she agreed to stay on and make her home here. Dr. Bolton is actually a native of this area, growing up in Shortsville and graduating from Red Jacket. She went on to major in Organismal Biology and minored in Chemistry at Keuka College, then attended Ross University for her veterinary degree. She spent her clinical year at Oklahoma State University where she was able to get plenty of hands-on equine experience. Dr. Bolton was very active in 4-H, as well as other sports, and grew up showing and working around horses on her families horse farm. She became an AAEP member while in vet school and we are very excited about the potential she brings to The Country Vet!
Nancy McMichael Gruschow, LVT
Nancy is our head Licensed Veterinary Technician, and has been working in the veterinary field for 16 years. Nancy graduated from SUNY Delhi and came to The Country Vet from Lakeshore Animal Hospital in Geneva.
Nancy is in the process of remodeling her circa 1800's Rushville farmhouse with her husband, Todd. She enjoys 4 wheeling, hiking, wildlife and spending time with her family. Nancy has a daughter and 2 beautiful grandchildren who visit her often.
Amy Eagle
Amy is our main receptionist and more often than not, office manager, and is most likely the person you will speak to when you call during business hours. Amy came to us from a significantly different background, hotel management! Amy's experience with management, sales, and staff training make her uniquely qualified for organizing a busy, 3 veterinarian clinic complete with all the challenges of our growing clientele, pending relocation and various staff personalities.
When Amy is not at work, she stays busy spending time with her husband and attending basketball and school functions with her two children.
Janelle Yates
Janelle is guilty by association and tends to do a bit of everything! Her work includes reception as well as assisting the vets in both appointments and surgeries, and of course is often the assistant for the small animal emergencies. She also does all of the advertising, web site design and facebook management, as well as being the "motivational speaker" for actually getting things done. The staff has also found it prudent to put the shopping list in HER hands...
Janelle has a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science, with a minor in Equine Production, and has worked for various veterinarians, including her husband, off and on for the past 20+ years. She also raises Appaloosa horses, a few chickens here and there, and a passel of kids. Once upon a time she had hobbies that included reading, sewing, and actually riding the horses she raises...but that was many moons ago!
Stephanie Coffey
Stephanie is our veterinary assistant. Her duties vary from holding patients for treatment, caring for the sick patients and the patients here for surgery. Stephanie also often helps out by taking appointments and discharging animals from the clinic. Stephanie is a graduate of Red Jacket High School and Finger Lakes community college, with a AS in psychology. She is currently attending Penn Foster College majoring in Veterinary technology. Stephanie enjoys reading a great deal. Some of her favorite authors include Jodi Picoult, Cathy Lamb, Stephenie Meyer, and Jane Austen. She is a big fan of the New England Patriots and enjoys going to see them play! Stephanie also likes to travel , with Boston, Reno, Vegas, Orlando and San Francisco being some of her favorite places. She also has a chocolate Lab named Holly and loves spending time with her niece Meredith and her nephew Brady.
Katherine Erdle
Kat is a sophomore at Desales High School and hopes to be a veterinarian one day. She often helps us on the weekends and during the summer with assisting the veterinarians, helping keep things cleaned between patients and making sure the office runs smoothly even on crazy-busy weekends!
Joy Bartlett
Joy helps out part time and helps with pretty much everything. From cleaning, to handling animals, to helping out on the phones or with paperwork...she's an extra set of hands when things get hectic.
William Willoughby
Will is our newest veterinary assistant and is still learning the ropes! As soon as I get a chance, I will get a more thorough bio from him!
Austin Yates
Austin started out helping at the reception desk when we first started up, and continues to fill in whenever we are short a hand or two! While he is quite handy with paperwork and "front room" stuff, his preferences involve any type of computer work or mechanical fixes. Lately, he can often be found out at the new building helping with the remodeling.
Austin is currently at Canandaigua Academy and hoping to complete his Eagle Scout requirements this coming school year. He is also planning to join the Air Force with thoughts of being an aerospace engineer in his future.
Miranda Yates
Miranda is Dr. Yate's oldest daughter, and often helps out when she is not in school with cleaning, filing and even assisting with treatments and appointments. Miranda is currently at Canandaigua Academy, loves playing basketball and running on her cross country team, spends a whole lot of time with a book in her hand, and is dabbling with the idea of becoming a medical doctor one day.
